Do you like my hat?

It really seems like this winter is never going to end. The bad weather really makes life as a nanny hard! During the summer we can spend every day at the park and everyone is happy. But in the winter I have to work much harder to find things for us to do every day.

Luckily, I have a great husband who gives me great ideas for projects we can do. He saw this one on the PBS show called a place of our own and it was a big success. We even had a hat parade in the living room to show off our work.

It was pretty fun. But we are still looking forward to the spring. Here are J and S on our first outing, on the one day that our weather was above freezing. Don't they look happy?

And, for those of you keeping track. My houses are done! Now all I need to add are the borders.

Salt Cookies!

I am totally sick. OK, it's just a cold. But to me it seems like a really terrible cold that might never go away  (I can be a little dramatic when I don't feel well). I think I caught it from the family I work for, who have all been sick in the past couple of weeks. I had this brilliant plan that after Kenneth and I watched Conan O'Brian's last show last night, I would take Nyquil and sleep so well that I would be completely healed by morning. Apparently my cold did not agree because I woke up more sick than I was before. Kenneth and I have been hanging out all day eating soup and popsicles, watching the Muppet Movie and resting so that this blasted cold will go away.
By about 4:00 we were both a little stir crazy. So, I decided to make snickerdoodles. Now, don't let the title of this blog post fool you. They were actually pretty good. (Not as good as Megs, but we all can't be super fantastic cookie makers). All I could think about while I was mixing the dough was the the first time I made snickerdoodles...
I was 12 and spending some quality time during summer vacation with my awesome aunt and uncle in Pocatello, ID. My aunt Lanae had to put her kids down for naps and I had some free time so she told me I could make cookies (something I had never done before). She gave me the recipe and showed me where the ingredients were and left me alone in the kitchen.
The result was just a tiny mix up between the sugar and salt....
In case you were wondering 2 cups of salt and 1 tsp of sugar does not turn out as well as you might think. And even now, 15 years later, David and Lanae still make jokes about my delicious salt cookies.

And, for those of you who are frequenters of our blog (or who just happened to read my last post) here is an update on my most recent project:

I still have about 1 1/2 rows left + borders. But I had to take a break from this project to make a baby quilt for a friend of mine who is due in March.

My new favorite thing..

Last year for Christmas my awesome sister-in-law Jeanette taught me how to dye my own fabric as my Christmas present. It was super awesome and I LOVE my fabric! So, this year I talked her into doing it again (I didn't really have to twist her arm). It was so much fun!

Here is my finished fabric:

And this is the first project I am thinking of using some of it for..

California!

That's it! I have had enough of winter! I know you all probably love it.. and the snow is rather picturesque... But I can't handle the cold any longer.

From here on out my heart beats only for California. It's a pretty big state. There has to be some University somewhere out there that will have a job for Kenneth once he is finished with his PhD.

I know we've talked about a lot of places that we would love to end up.. But the past week of ice and snow has erased it all from my memory.

You heard it here first... My 5 year plan now includes this:

Fizzy Party!

For years my dad has talked about how his favorite treat while growing up were "Fizzies." Mostly because he has been diabetic since he was 5 years old and fizzies came in various sugar free varieties.

For those of you unfamiliar with Fizzies, they are a treat much like Alka Seltzer, but with more exciting flavors. You can dissolve them in water or just let them dissolve on your tounge. It's pretty exciting.

Last year for Christmas I ordered a box of Fizzies from a vintage candy shop for my dad. He was super excited, and this year after Christmas decided to have a Fizzy party. We all got to pick our favorite flavor and you could either drink it or let it dissolve on your tounge - or both :)

Here are some pictures from our exciting party:
